Queens Park Rangers striker Jay Bothroyd is confident of challenging club-record signing Loic Remy for a place in Harry Redknapp's starting line-up this season.
The 30-year-old was loaned to Sheffield Wednesday at the start of the campaign after appearing surplus to requirements under Rangers' former manager Mark Hughes.
But Bothroyd made an instant impact on his return to the Rs, scoring the only goal in their FA Cup replay at West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday. He is hoping for a fresh start at Loftus Road and will not be put off by any new arrivals.
Speaking to the London Evening Standard, he said "This was the opportunity I wanted. Everyone knows Harry is a very honest man. If the club sign another striker, I will welcome the competition.
"Things didn't work out for me before now. But I want to stay with QPR and am determined to work hard for my spot."
