Genoa have signed Fiorentina midfielder Ruben Olivera on loan with a view to completing a permanent deal at the end of the Serie A season.
The Uruguay international has struggled to dislodge David Pizarroand Alberto Aquilani from the Viola midfield this term, with disciplinary issues also restricting the 29-year-old to just four league appearances.
Olivera was handed a retrospective three-match ban last month for stamping on Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic during a 4-2 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico.
A statement on genoacfc read: "Genoa have completed the loan transfer of midfielder Ruben Olivera from Fiorentina, with the option to sign the player permanently."
Olivera left Danubio to sign for Juventus in 2003 but spent much of his career with the Bianconeri on loan at other clubs, taking in spells with Atletico Madrid, Sampdoria, Penarol and Genoa.
He returned to Penarol following his release by Juve but returned to Italy with Lecce in 2010 before Vincenzo Montella brought him to the Stadio Artemio Franchi in the summer.
The Rossoblu also confirmed the permanent signing of 25-year-old Bosnian winger Enis Nadarevic from Serie B side Varese for an undisclosed fee.
